Plot: The Simpsons go on a hike, and they hear a buzzing sound. Turns out the to be a race car track! They look out past the bushes. They see the track and immediately go. Bart gets to ride in a racer's car, and they get tickets to the upcoming race. Flanders shows up with Maude, Rod, and Todd. Then, some ladies come out with t-shirt cannons, and Homer wants one. Maude gets sick of seeing Homer's torso, so she gets some hot dogs. The t-shirt lady says sarcastically, I guess no one else wants a t-shirt. Homer says that's a lie. So the ladies fire up the cannons and shoot them, but then Homer gets distracted by a bobby pin. Maude comes back at this time and gets knocked off the railing of the stands. She falls and dies. They have a funeral for her and Ned is very sad. They comfort him and Homer walks Ned home. He takes him home and puts him in bed. Flanders throws rocks at the Simpsons' window to talk, and Homer thinks it's a rock fight, they quickly clear it up, and they talk about how Homer killed Maude. Then Homer and Lisa make a dating video for Flanders, and he is so-so about it. Ned plays Scrabble by himself and realizes he's lonely. He goes to the mail box, and submitted the dating tape. He goes to the dating place and finds his matches. Lindsey Naegle is up first and she says she's poised, articulate and highly sexual, but then she gets a fax saying she was indicted. She says her July is terrible, so she says her and Ned will talk in August. His next one is Edna Krabappel and Ned says dinner was delicious. But he thinks that Edna is using Ned to get back at Skinner. She denies it, but Skinner is on the phone. He goes on another date with a lady named Diane, but she's a bit crazy. He goes back to the Simpsons' house and asks why he doesn't seem attracted to any of the women there. Ned goes home and prays to Lord to see if his decision to take Maude was right. He gets mad at the Lord and decides to not go to church, but his decision is quickly revoked. He sees a singer and is attracted to her, and then him and the SImpsons walk out of church and he sees the singer struggling to get her speaker in the van. He walks to help her and they end up talking about the troubles they have. The singer says they Ned and her should hang out sometime and Ned declines because he's not ready to date again. He says they should meet up after her band's tour.
Overall: I think this is a great episode, but it's not really built around anything. Everything just happens. It's like a building that you didn't know was built, but then it gets built, and you didn't notice. You see it, say oh, and walk away. You never noticed that it was there, but it is. It gets better during the end, when they help Ned through his tough time. But like I said, there really is no foundation. Maude's death was really sad, but she also wasn't a main character, and she didn't speak much. Her death was sad, but someone like Comic Book Guy's death would be sadder, because he was talkative whenever he was in frame.
