The "forgot my hat" guy is a man who, along with a large crowd, attended Gladys Bouvier's funeral simply to see whether the crowd might be able to get any money from her. Like the others, he left upon finding out that Gladys wasn't wealthy, but he briefly returned to retrieve the hat he had left in the room.
