740 Evergreen Terrace or the Brown House is a house in Evergreen Terrace that is one door right from the Simpson family's house 742 Evergreen Terrace.

It was inhabited by Mr. and Mrs. Winfield and later Ruth and Laura Powers.[2] Sideshow Bob, disguised as Walt Warren, moved into the house until he was arrested again. The real Walt Warren then moved out of 740 Evergreen Terrace and the house was then occupied by a cousin of Ned Flanders, Ted Flanders and his two daughters Bonnie and Connie, leaving Homer Simpson at number 742 living next door to Flanders members on both sides.[3] At some point after, it had been put on sale "forever" because Homer urinated outside next door. Terrence, Emily and their children, T-Rex and Corduroy moved in and remodeled it, only to move out again when they found out it wasn't cool to live in Springfield any more.[4] The Powers later moved in again, as in a neighborhood meeting at the Simpson house, Ruth told Marge Simpson she hasn't "stopped by to say hello in 25 years, and I live next door".[1]

Behind the Laughter[]

Before "New Kid on the Block" was produced, the Winfields' home is implicitly or explicitly shown to be in a different location to the home on the immediate right of the Simpsons' house. In "Homer's Odyssey" Homer carries a rock walking past the Flanders' house and in "Simpson and Delilah" he runs in the same direction celebrating he has hair; on both occasions he passes the Winfields' house. "Bart's Dog Gets an F" is less clear on its geography, though it is described as being on the same block. It is implied to be left of the Simpsons and Flanders' houses based on the way Homer is returning home with Santa's Little Helper (who escaped into the Winfields' pool).

Trivia[]
