A Child's Garden of Cons is a book about scams written Grifty McGrift who is Abe Simpson actually.

When Bart and Homer decided to make scams in Springfield, they used the book for inspiration. They later discovered that Abe wrote this book. He was called Grifty McGrift, because in the depression, he had to either grift or work. Abe then started helping them with scams.
