| “ | Mabel and Virgil lived out the rest of their days in peace. They got married, and since Virgil had no last name, they both took the name Simpson so that Mabel could keep all her monogrammed table linens. And their son, Abraham Simpson, was my great-grandfather. | „ |
| ~ Abraham Simpson II[src] |
Abraham Simpson I was the son of Virgil and Mabel Simpson, and the maternal half-brother of Eliza Simpson. He makes his first and only appearance in "The Color Yellow" during the story by Abraham Simpson II.
He was unvoiced.
Biography[]
He was born after Mabel (a white woman) and Virgil (an escaped black slave) married in Canada escaping slaveholders; on the way Mabel had disguised herself with the hat of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.[1] Grampa mentioned that he and his wife tried to make a cheap substitute for holy water but made a sex tonic instead.[2] A family tree showing Abraham's known lineage can be seen here.
Behind the Laughter[]
"The Color Yellow", in which Abraham is Homer's great-great-grandfather, and the son of Virgil and Mabel (the earliest of Homer's ancestors to bear the name Simpson according to the episode), is impossible to reconcile with The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album, in which Homer's great-great-great grandparents are Garwood Simpson and Clowta Stillman, and his great-great-grandparents are called Gabby Crouse and Howland Simpson.
