Alphonse is Krusty the Clown's ventriloquist dummy.
In a vain attempt to compete with the increasingly popular Gabbo Show which stars the titular dummy, Krusty puts on a ventriloquism act with Alphonse in his own show. However, the act goes poorly due to the dummy's gruesome appearance and poor condition, as its jaw broke onto Krusty's lap mere seconds into his act, scaring most of the young audience. Krusty attempts to calm the audience down by saying that the dummy can't hurt them as “he’s dead”, but makes things worse as he accidentally smashes the dummy's head and, frustrated, kicks it towards the already horrified audience, much to Bart's dismay.
