The Aquacar is an amphibious automobile (described as "part-car, part-boat, part-crazy person") that was manufactured in Springfield, NT, during the post-World War II era. When the Aquacar became fashionable, Springfield enjoyed unbridled prosperity for two months. But the fad did not last, as it became apparent that the vehicle was subject to spontaneous explosion after 600 miles and/or knots. Every single Aquacar had to be recalled, dozens of Springfielders were left without a job, the gold-paved streets were repossessed and sold to the Sultan of Brunei (who later melted them to encase one of his elephant herds), and the town's all-you-can-eat free-chicken Fridays were cancelled forever.
