Bart is trying to jump into Homer's arms "just like the good old days". Bart jumps, but doesn't go far enough and falls onto the floor landing on his head, disappointing Homer.
On their second attempt, Bart asks Homer why this task is necessary, while Homer asserts that it is always because he has been so jumpy. Homer laughs at his comment and gets distracted, failing to catch Bart once he jumps and falls again.
On their third attempt, Bart is now bandaged and bruised from the previous jump. Homer gets distracted again when he tries to work out the past tense of the word "leap". As he goes to get a dictionary, Bart jumps and falls again. Homer returns and discovers that "leaped" and "leapt" are both acceptable.
For the final time, Bart is ready to jump, but then the doorbell rings, causing Homer to go answer the door instead. Bart closes his eyes and leaps, but falls again and lies on his back. Homer returns announcing that the boxing gloves have arrived.
