- This short which featured Bart Simpson foiling a robber debuted two months before Fox first aired Cops. The Fox classic which debuted in March 1989 is a record-breaking reality show which shows police catching criminals while on-duty.
- The name "Chupo" of the candy store, Chupo's Candy Store, is the phonetic spelling of Csupó, referring to animator Gábor Csupó. Gábor co-founded the company Klasky-Csupo.
- A Simpson having to walk outside and eventually enjoying it was reused in "Brake My Wife, Please".
- The 'accidental heroism' theme was further explored in "Homer Defined".
- Bart preferring an alternative reward over money was reused in "Bart Gets an Elephant".
- Marge doesn't appear in this short, but we can see her picture grinning when Bart is on the news.
- This is the first appearance of Phil.
