Cultural References[]
- In Bart's daydream, Pikachu from Pokémon and Bender from Futurama can be seen.
- The field trip memorial is based upon the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
- The song that "MC Safety and the Caution Crew" sing has a similar rhythm (possibly sampled) as Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers Delight".
- MC Safety himself dresses similar to rapper Flava Flav, with a backwards baseball cap and big pendant.
- At one point, Marge says, "Get back, honky cat!" This is a reference to the Elton John song Honky Cat.
- On the field trip memorial wall when Willie has to enter Bart and Lisa's names, you'll notice two particular names. El Jefe (Hefe) and Fat Mike - horns/guitar/backup vocals and bass/lead vocals/founding member (respectively) of the punk band NOFX. A third notable name is Henry Rollins of the punk band, Black Flag.
Goofs[]
The red-orange Capital City Goofball
- For some reason, the Capital City Goofball is red-orange in this episode, when in others, he is yellow.
- When Bart and Lisa tumble into the creek, you can tell its pretty deep from the underwater shot of them choking each other. But when they resurface they're able to stand and the water's only waist deep.
- After Lisa is given her paper, you can clearly see that there is a B+ on top of the stack of the papers the teacher is holding. But a moment later, she gives Bart an A.
- Bart and Lisa's fanny packs disappear as soon as they get on the bus.
Bender and Pikachu with the wrong colors
- When Otto says "Pukers in Back", his mouth doesn't move.
- Bender's eyes are white instead of neon yellow, and his teeth are missing the two horizonal lines.
- This could be justified since this is in Bart's imagination, who may be misremembering Bender's appearance.
- Pikachu's ears are miscolored.
- As with Bender, Bart may be misremembering Pikachu's appearance. It may also be an attempt to avoid copyright infringement.
- Ashley's glasses are missing when the students are on the bus headed for Capitol City. Also, Kyle's shirt is a different color when they are on the bus.
