William Henry Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is the co-founder and chairman of the tech company Microsoft. He first appeared in the episode "Das Bus".
History[]
He came to Homer's house to "buy him out", but instead destroyed his internet company Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net, while saying he didn't get rich by writing a lot of checks.
Bill Gates was later seen at an entrepreneurs expo with Nelson on his shoulders, in a play fight with Mark Zuckerberg and Richard Branson.
In "The Burns and the Bees", he is shown to have a cabin at Billionaire Camp, and his net worth is seen as $57,108,927,832.
Behind the Laughter[]
Bill Gates didn't provide the voice of the character, Hank Azaria did. In the audio commentary for "Das Bus" found on The Complete Ninth Season DVD, the producers talk about how they considered possibly approaching the real Bill Gates to voice the character. They ultimately didn't for various reasons such as how Bill Gates would never answer the door whenever The Simpsons producers came to his house.
Today, he is consistently ranked in Forbes's list for the richest people in the world. He is currently placed in seventh, with a net worth of $131.4 billion.
