"Big" Bill McCloskey, also known as Nails, for being a manicurist during off-season, is one of the members of the Springfield Isotopes baseball team. He was described by Milhouse as the team's clean-up hitter and he has a strong hatred for teammate Willy Dipkin.

McCloskey played against the Shelbyville Shelbyvillians, eventually scoring the game-winning grand slam after Homer Simpson started dancing to cheer the crowd up. Before the hit, the Isotope Stadium play-by-play announcer called him a "mediocre slugger."

When Bart Simpson skateboarded past the Springfield War Memorial Stadium and asked whether the Isotopes will win any games, he responds that they will at least try.<ref>"Lemon of Troy
