~ Capri Flanders[src] |
Mona "Capri" Flanders, née Turnipseed is the mother of Ned Flanders and Nediana Flanders, wife of Nedward Flanders, Sr. and paternal grandmother of Rod and Todd Flanders.
Biography[]
Capri Flanders was and remains a beatnik artist. As a little boy Ned was out-of-control terror yet she and Ned's father still never made any rules or disciplined their son. As part of radical treatment known as the University of Minnesota Spankalogical Protocol they left young Ned to be spanked by Dr. Foster all day, every day for 8 months. Dr. Foster now believes the treatment worked "too well" leaving Ned unable to express any anger at all so Homer is brought to Calmwood Mental Hospital to antagonize Ned into expressing anger. Homer gets Ned to admit he does not like everything. "You might even say I hate the post office... That and my parents. Lousy beatniks." Saying he hates his parents means for Dr. Foster that Ned is now cured and released from the mental hospital.
Flanders once said, "Homer, you met my parents" (to which Homer replied, "Not naked I haven't", as she was naked at the time), an indication that they are still alive.[1] In Season 23, it is shown that she and her husband are alive, since they both attended Ned and Edna's wedding.
According to the Simpsons Comic "Granddaddy-o!" (printed in Simpsons Comics 204), she and Nedward were Bleeding Gums Murphy's godparents.
Trivia[]
- There is a discrepancy with her name. She is named Agnes "Kookie" Turnipseed on the Flanders Family Tree in the Flanders' Book of Faith. In "Black-eyed Please", Ned introduces her as Capri which also Capri Flanders is used in character unlock message on The Simpsons: Tapped Out mobile game. In "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song" the flashback has Ned Flanders' father called her Mona and "Bottle Episode" Mona is recorded as the mother's name on Ned Flanders' birth certificate.
