Catfish Lake is a freshwater lake located in the mountains of Springfield's state and popular with fishermen hoping to catch the legendary gigantic catfish called General Sherman.
History[]
Homer and Marge stay at Catfish Lake while taking part in Reverend Lovejoy's 3rd annual marriage encounter weekend. Catfish Lake's retreat has a main cabin with a large main room where the couple counseling happens and dormitory cabins where people sleep. Homer and Marge are struggling during the first day, and Homer plans to go fishing in the morning before the next day's sessions start, but ultimately decides not to after getting caught sneaking out by Marge. However, he is accidentally drawn into a boat and ends up catching General Sherman, but throw him back to prove to Marge that their marriage matters more.[1]
Behind the Laughter[]
On the DVD commentary Mark Kirkland, director of the episode, said he based the background layouts for fishing sequences on an early job he had for a local fishing TV show in Virginia.
