  • The title of this episode is a reference to the 1984 film Thief of Hearts.
  • Battle Ball is a reference to 'Bakugan Battle Brawlers'. A game played with balls with magnets inside and cards.
  • When explaining the game to Bart, one of the boys says that it makes Digimon look like Pokémon.
  • When Louie turns on the music for Fat Tony, the song At Seventeen by Janis Ian plays, which was previously used in the episode "The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer", while Homer was searching for his soul mate, this time played when Homer is with a soul mate of his. The song was also played during the end credits.
  • The cop show that Homer watches before changing the channel is an episode of the TV series Starsky and Hutch.

Trivia[]

  • Lisa appears in this episode but doesn't have any lines. Also, Yeardley Smith is credited in the end, but Lisa, her only main character who appears in the episode, didn't talk.
  • Sideshow Bob makes a brief cameo appearance at the end of the episode.
  • The episode This Little Wiggy revolved around Bart and Ralph becoming friends. In this episode, their fathers become friends.
  • When the mob kidnaps Homer and Wiggum, Johnny Tightlips is missing afterwards for the rest of the episode.
  • This is the second time Homer has been sentenced to community service. The first was in The Frying Game.
  • This is to date the last speaking appearance of Judge Constance Harm.
  • Louie and Legs are voiced by Harry Shearer and Karl Wiedergott in this episode instead of Dan Castellaneta and Harry Shearer, respectively.

  • When Chief Wiggum is shot, Lou and Eddie chase after the mafia after they make their getaway. However, when Wiggum falls to the ground after getting shot, Lou is there to come to his aid.
