Cultural References[]
- The title of this episode is a reference to the 1993 Columbia Pictures film The Remains of the Day.
- This episode references two real-life games from the 2023 NFL season: Jacksonville vs. Buffalo (in London), where the Jaguars are up 25-0 in the episode, and Detroit vs. Baltimore, which Moe loses a bet of Ravens after Detroit wins on a last-second safety.
- Jacksonville did score 25 points in their actual 2023 matchup against Buffalo, but won 25-20 after leading 11-7 at halftime. However, in the actual Detroit/Baltimore game, the Ravens won 38-6 in a game where Baltimore dominated the entire game.
- Robert F. Quimby Jr. is modeled after Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and he believes in the same anti-vaccination views as Kennedy. Eunice Quimby is likely a reference to Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
- Acceptable 8 is a parody of Motel 6.
- One of the songs in the episode, All the Lonely Larrys, is a reference to the song Eleanor Rigby, by the Beatles.
Trivia[]
- Larry dies in this episode, making this his final appearance in the show.
- His last name is also revealed to be Dalrymple.
- Mrs. Glick plays the organ at Larry's funeral and she died in the episode "Replaceable You".
- Other funerals at the Mourning Glory Funeral Home include:
- Pauline McAllister AKA Polly, the Sea Captain's pet parrot.
- Mayor Quimby's Aunt Eunice.
- The marketing for this episode was made to look as though that it was going to be Barney who was going to die (mainly the picture leak of Homer, Carl, Lenny and Moe looking sad in funeral clothes) which explains why he only appears in one scene.
- Ironically, Barney appears in a scene where he has built community well for the poor in Nicaragua. The flag of the Nicaragua is hanging on the wall of one of the homes.
