The Department of Motor Vehicles, or DMV, is the government agency administrating motor vehicle registration and driver licensing in Springfield. The driving tests are made in the back of the building.
The DMV is where Patty and Selma work usually at the counter as well issuing licenses, drivers' road tests and written examinations and often depicted as bored, unhelpful and outright rude. The lines are often extremely long and out the door. Patty and Selma make a joke to Bart that some days they do not let the line move at all which they call weekdays.
They made exceptions for disqualified drivers such as Troy McClure due to him offering to take Selma out on a date in "A Fish Called Selma" or Otto due to a shared dislike for Homer in "The Otto Show".
