• During the tour of the Duff Brewery, the three vats are marked "Duff", "Duff Light" and "Duff Dry". The vats are filled by the same pipe, indicating different names for exactly the same product. This may be reference to an urban legend that some gas stations hooked up their regular, plus, and super unleaded to the same tank, charging more money for customers who bought plus or super while getting the same product.
• Martin had a flying balloon which was deflated when Nelson shot it from his B.B. Gun exhibit. Nelson states that he was aiming for Martin's head. In the syndicated version, both Martin and Nelson's exhibits at the Science Fair were removed. In the DVD release, this scene was left in uncut.
  • Also cut in syndication is the scene of Chief Wiggum accidentally showing a home video of him eating a hot dog in a kiddie pool (and later spraying his wife with a hose) during the anti-drunk driving class.
• This is the first appearance of Sarah Wiggum (Chief Wiggum's wife).
• It is revealed Hans Moleman is 31 years old and looks old because of severe alcoholism (though later episodes would have Hans Moleman as 81 years old).
• When Barney was talking to the quality control worker, one of the bottles that passes by is actually a jar with Adolf Hitler's head in it.
• The close-up of Homer saying "D'oh" when he is under arrest and handcuffed is stock footage from Bart The Daredevil.
• It is never mentioned why Lionel Hutz is in jail, through this may be a lead up to Marge in Chains, possibly for when he ran over Judge Snyder's son with his car.
• Lisa's steroid-pumped tomato being used as a solution to stopping world hunger is actually possible. Since steroids cause infertility and sterility in both sexes, couples won't be able to have children and therefore, won't have to spend money or time trying to find food for their offspring.

• Lisa asks Bart to hold the giant tomato and Bart answers "Certainly" and laughs, in reference to a catch phrase of the Three Stooges.
• Barney mistakes a a pile of rags with Princess Diana.
• A commercial from 1960 with former United States Presidents Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy is shown at Duff Brewery .
• Lisa laughs saying she just remembered a joke from the sitcom Herman's Head , a show the actress who provides the voice of Lisa, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria were on.
• McMahon and Tate Advertising, from Bewitched is shown.
• At the end of the episode the song Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head is played while Homer and Marge ride a bicycle .
• When Homer is younger he listens to the British rock band Queen and has a poster of them on his wall.
• The scene where Bart is tempted to touch the two cupcakes is a reference to the scene in A Clockwork Orange where Alex is tempted to touch the woman's breasts as part of his treatment.

Citations

• The final scene in which Homer and Marge ride off into the sunset singing B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", parodies a similar scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Goofs

Larry appearing twice in a single shot.

• In the scene where Homer returns to Moe's Tavern, you are able to see two Larry's at once; sitting drinking beer amongst other patrons.
• It's quite impossible for Homer to be listening to Queen when he was 17. Since Homer is 38, and the episode was released in 1993, that means that he claims he was listening to Queen in 1972, while their first album was released in the Q3 of 1973. What's more he has a poster hanged on the wall, of the album "A night at the opera" which was released on November 21, 1975, when Homer was 20.
