As driving it down the cliff Homer could've escape from Moe's car in order to avoid police see it is him stealing it.
The top of the tie not colored in
When the chimpanzee jumps from the plane in the movie Hail to the Chimp, the top section of his tie is not colored in for a frame.
If Homer missed the train crashing into Moe's car, then he could still leave the car on the rails for another train to crash into it.
It is possible that Homer thought there would be no next train before Moe would have found his car.
