Ms. Emilie Mercer is an older librarian who, like the younger librarian, works at the school library at Springfield Elementary and also Springfield's public libraries including the main downtown branch and the smaller location closer to the Simpsons' home.
She also drove the Springfield Book Mobile when Bart, experiencing severe side effects from Focusyn, ran the book mobile over with a stolen tank. ("Brother's Little Helper")
An overjoyed Moe dances with a surprised Ms. Mercer after using the public library computers to get an online date. ("Eeny Teeny Maya, Moe")
She pours out a bucket of chopped up paper made from culled library books into a trough for Cletus' pigs to eat. ("Sweets and Sour Marge")
Marge worries the family have become too lazy so she convinced them to take "a good old-fashioned family walk" where she make very boring commentary along the way. When they get downtown she points to an old Victorian home next to a button shop and says, "And that's where the bookmobile lady used to live." ("Monty Can't Buy Me Love")
In a flashforward sequence a teenaged Bart visits Grampa Simpson's grave and a nearby tombstone is for Ms. Emilie Mercer, librarian, with her epitaph “I regret that I've nothing to regret.” ("Barthood")
