Ernest Borgnine (January 24, 1917 - July 8, 2012) was an American actor famous for his work both in movies and on television.
Borgnine's acting career spans six decades, starting in the 1950s, where he was mainly a character actor, playing numerous roles on television and appearing as an unconventional lead in many movies, winning an Academy Award in the 1955 film Marty For his TV work he is perhaps famous as Dominic Santini in the classic 1984 TV Show AirWolf. More recently, Borgnine has voiced the character Mermaid Man on the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, Carface Carruthers in the All Dogs go to Heaven saga, and appeared in the final two episodes of ER.
Borgnine is also a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1935 to 1945.
