• The Itchy & Scratchy cartoon parodies The Odd Couple.
• The couch gag is a parody of The Beatles album covers:
  • Meet the Simpsons! parodies Meet The Beatles!.
  • A Hard D'oh's Night parodies A Hard Day's Night.
  • Rubber Pants parodies Rubber Soul.
  • The Yellow Album parodies The White Album (in name) and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (in image)
  • Flabby Road parodies Abbey Road, but the Simpsons are ran over by a double decker bus after the picture.
• The title of the episode is a possible reference to Walt Disney: One Man's Dream, an interactive gallery located on Mickey Avenue in Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
• Lisa mentions the popular telecommunications program Skype, by saying to Homer that she will "Skype" him on Christmas.
• Maggie sings the song What a Wonderful World in one of Homer's dreams. A rock cover by Joey Ramone is played at the bar and during the end credits.

Trivia

• On a rare occasion, Lisa is seen eating meat after the Season 7 episode Lisa The Vegetarian, but that only happened on Homer's dream inside Marge's dream, so this could be considered as non-canon.
• At the pharmacy, Homer sleeps hugging a toy octopus the same way he slept underwater in one of the family vacation photos.

Goofs

• At Moe's Tavern, when Homer, Lenny and Carl are watching the cartoon and talking about Homer's relatioship, the pickled eggs jar is nowhere to be seen, only appearing when Barney plunges the comb onto it.
