Cultural and Episode References[]
- The title is a reference to the 1982 West German epic adventure-drama film Fitzcarraldo.
- Bart's chalkboard gag is a reference to Atlanta losing the 2017 Superbowl. It is also a reference to how many people say that The Simpsons is good at predicting things, for example, them predicting that Trump would become president in "Bart to the Future".
- When Homer imagined his family as food, he imagined Bart as a Butterfinger bar. This is a reference to how Bart used to be star in Butterfinger commercials.
- Abe's remark to Homer, "Well, you were young then, & your stupid now..." could possibly reference the Simpson Gene from 1998's episode of Lisa the Simpson 19 seasons prior (Incase you don't know, it's a fictional gene in this show where all male Simpson family members would gradually lose their intelligence once they turn 8 years of age.).
- The song playing when Homer passes by various restaurants was previously used in the "Dial "M" for Murder or Press "#" to Return to Main Menu" segment of "Treehouse of Horror XX".
- Homer quotes Han Solo's line from Star Wars: The Force Awakens about finding the Millenium Falcon again.
- The music that plays when Homer begins remembering the chili dogs is "Flower Duet" from either the opera Lakmé or Madama Butterfly.
- At the end of the episode, the theme from the movie Chinatown plays.
Trivia[]
- This episode was dedicated to Sooan Kim, a former Simpsons character layout artist and lead character layout artist, who passed away on January 20th, four weeks before this episode aired. - This episode was originally supposed to have WABF03 as the production code.
