Homer's Paternity Coot
We're on the Road to D'oh-where ā–ŗ

Trivia[]

  • In June 2023, it was alleged that Homer's near death experience in the episode while riding on the submarine predicted the 2023 Titan submersible incident which involved the deaths of 5 tourists who were set to visit the Titanic wreckage while onboard Oceangate's Titan submarine.[1] Simpsons writer and former showrunner Mike Reiss openly acknowledged that he had ridden on the same submarine and also claimed he had concerns about its technical issues.[1][2]
  • This is the 366th episode. With this episode, viewers can now watch an episode a day during leap years without repeating (for regular years, the cut-off episode is "Simpsons Christmas Stories").
  • Initially, this episode had no title when season 17 was broadcast.

Cultural References[]

  • The episode references the film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in that Homer thinks he found his biological father. In The Life Aquatic Ned Zissou experiences the same. Also the episode references the underwater exploration team that is in the film.

Goofs[]

Bluecoathing

Mason's alternative outfit

  • When Dr. Hibbert says "Homer's Biological Father is Mason Fairbanks", Mason stands up with a blue coat on and black jeans. Then Homer says "Who's Mason Fairbanks" and Dr. Hibbert points to Mason in his usual attire
  • Mason's lost letter to Mona is delivered to 742 Evergreen Terrace, but she would never have been registered as living at this address - especially in 1966 when the letter was sent. Possibly the postal service would've checked to see if a Simpson was living in Springfield and relay the letter to their location.
  • Pythons, along with all other species of snake, can't blink.
