Hey, it's not just a store, it's a megastore. 'Mega' means 'good', and 'store' means 'thing'.
Homer

Fortune Megastore is a large, multistorey department store, owned by billionaire Arthur Fortune.

History[]

At the grand opening of the Springfield Megastore, Mayor Joe Quimby introduced Arthur Fortune, who dropped through an open dome on the ceiling in a hot air balloon. Fortune told customers the Springfield store is the 112th in the Megastore chain, and handed out dollar bills to the crowd.[1]

Across three levels connected by escalators and elevators, the Fortune Megastore is divided into individual departments selling a wide variety of goods including electronics, CDs, books, magazines, stationery, gifts, Nutrition Center, sporting goods and even a shoplifting section. In electronics, large TV screens show live footage from video cameras mounted on the shop floor.

The Fortune Megastore also has a coffee shop and a children's miniature train ride, operated by Gil Gunderson.

Behind the Laughter[]

The Fortune Megastore's name and logo somewhat resembles that of the Virgin Megastore chain, founded by billionaire Richard Branson, that expanded to hundreds of stores in the 1990s. However the Fortune Megastore sells a wider variety of products.
