Article Comments

There is a way of having comments at the bottom of an article, sort of like blog comments. We can request to turn this on but I was wondering whether anyone else thinks it is a good idea or a bad idea. They would be different to normal talk page comments and we will have rules about these, like if you place a vandalism comment, you will get warned, blocked etc. They could be to report problems with the page etc. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 17:37, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

I know from that when Brickipedia launched this, there was a tonne of vandalism. I think it would be quite good to let people review episodes and comment on the pages, its just we need to be able to strictly control the comments or it will end up a spammers paradise.--Sgtcook (My Talk Page) 16:13, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

What they look like[]

I would like to see what they look like first, maybe a link to a wiki that has it.--Smiley12 was here at 22:33, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

My experience with them[]

In my experience, these do not work. We tried it at LEGO at least we would get some good responses and reviews from people. In the end, about 10 comments where useful. The rest were "This sucks" "Why they cancel this", or some other spam. I also do not see the use of them here, what is there to comment on other than article or factual improvements, which can be done better on a talk page. Kingcjc 16:12, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Conclusion[]

I have now decided not to go along with this then from seeing and reading about negative experiences with them. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 20:16, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

Reconsidering[]

I think maybe we should reconsider this now. After the fork there has been next to none discussion on this wiki, and, as Mrs. Manley said (I think) most people don't know that they can help the wiki. Comments will encourage more involvement, and of course we will have strict rules on these. The spam taskforce have been on this wiki alot lately cleaning up spam by the idiots that left and they and other newly appointed admins will clean these up. So I'd like to bring this discussion back. I think comments would be a good idea. --Combee123 22:15, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

He has good points and it would raise activity ----- It's Magic - Kingcjc 22:19, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

I would be happy to give up some of my free time to clean up any spam that might happen. --Combee123 22:24, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

I'm up to it. I mean if they try taking the piss we can just give them a nice block - and the vandalism (apart from that bot thing the other day) has slowed down. --Sgtcook (My Talk Page) 22:29, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

Hi all. I'd be happy to turn on article comments for you. I just want to make sure that this is enough consensus to move forward with turning on the feature. Or, would you prefer to wait to see if anyone else chimes in? Just let me know! - Brandon Rhea(talk) 01:55, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

Well I don't think we'll be get any more responses - there aren't many active users at the moment. I think give it another day or so and as long as no one objects, lets turn it on and see how it goes. --Sgtcook (My Talk Page) 19:55, December 17, 2010 (UTC)
Looks like you're good to go. Just to be clear, though, while talk pages won't be gone completely, the link to them will be gone in favor of making the article comments the standard mode of discussion for an article. Will this be OK? Please be sure to answer on my talk page as well, that way I know when you've replied. Thanks! :) - Brandon Rhea(talk) 05:51, December 22, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good ----- It's Magic - Kingcjc 23:00, December 22, 2010 (UTC)
