Simpsons Wiki became eligible for adoption last week since all of the administrators and bureaucrats have left. It is time to start the process of adopting this wiki so it can begin rebuilding and growing. If there was just one person making edits, they could make the adoption request themselves, but since there are several people editing here, we need to select one person to do it.
Requirements for adoption[]
Here are the requirements for adopting a wiki:
- Is the wiki inactive?
- Admins have been inactive for 60 days. -- confirmed today
- No sustained editing by other users. -- there are several who are editing frequently, which is why this forum was created
- Are you eligible to adopt?
- You have not founded, adopted, or been given admin access on another wiki in the last 60 days. -- to be answered by each person
- You have not been blocked on another Wikia project. -- to be answered by each person
- Are you contributing to the wiki's content?
- You have edited on the wiki (the more the better). -- see below
- You have created at least one new page (the more the better). -- to be answered by each person
- Are you building the community?
- You make an effort to talk to other users: you've left friendly and encouraging messages on user talk pages and responded to questions on article talk pages, forums, or blogs.
- You keep the wiki looking well-tended and up to date: update news sections, add new pictures and videos related to the topic, etc. -- some of this can't be done because templates and pages are locked
The person that adopts Simpsons Wiki will become the new bureaucrat of the wiki, which is an administrator that can add and remove rights for other users. Because of this, it needs to be a person who has shown that they are interested in building this wiki (and not just because they can earn badges for doing so), and has been around long enough to show that they are reliable and trusted in their edits.
I have been monitoring this wiki since March when I came here to help clean up vandalism. Enough time has passed that I believe the following people would qualify to become the bureaucrat. They typically edit several times each day or every few days.
- JD Rod: over 1500 edits since July 2010
- Kid Sonic: over 900 edits since March 2010
- TheShadowCrow: over 900 edits since March 2010
- Trakira2189: just under 1100 edits since July 2010
- RRabbit42 (myself): over 1100 edits since March 2011
Each of the above people should decide if they would be willing to adopt the wiki and fill out the information below. It isn't necessary to edit every single day, but the more you can, the better.
If we have more than one person accept, then we will need to discuss which one makes the adoption request. After the request is approved, the new bureaucrat can promote the others to administrator, if they are still interested in having that responsibility.
For the "talks to others and answers questions", by participating in this forum, you would qualify. Change the "not yet" to "yes" when you answer the points.

Completion date[]
Each candidate should record whether they want to participate in the adoption and fill out the information in their section by Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Discussions will take place through October 4, 2011. If there is a clear concensus on October 4th as to which person will adopt this wiki, it will be entered into the Result section below. Otherwise, further discussions will take place through October 15, 2001 to select a final candidate.
All members of this wiki may particpate in the discussion. Any messages determined to be trolling, vandalism or any kind of attempt to disrupt these procedings will be removed.

- No, I do my research before hand, even though some of my ideas have been turned down before.
- How do you handle vandalism?
- I had to deal with that on Wikia I'm the admin of. It happened on the page talking about a character on iCarly. Because the person was unresigtered, all I could do was block the page from those who are unregistered and/or newly registereded. If it was a registered user, I would only give warning for 2 offenses. Third will result in a block for a period of 3 days. Any more after that all evenually result in a ban.
- What you would like to see happen on this wiki/any plans for helping it grow:
- Research beforehand, and also spolier warnings would be fair in case people haven't seen the episode. I have have an idea. For episodes that aired less than 3 months since their first viewing, giving out the ending, with the exception of trivia, appearances, and quotes, should refine from revealing the ending. This will let people view the entire episode for themsevles.
- Any other relevant info, such as qualifications like being an admin on another wiki:
- As I said, I'm admin at a Wikia site, Heroic Characters. It's small and could use more pages, which is why experinced registered users are allowed.

- I decline from adopting this wiki. My only reason for being on this wiki in the first place is for things of my own interest, and to develop underrated pages with little info. To be quite honest, I am not the biggest Simpsons fan in the world (even less now since Season 13 to now). Let's just say that there are somethings that I just don't agree with. - Has not been blocked on another wiki: Once, but it was a really corrupt wiki and I think it's currently a huge mess over there.
- How do you handle vandalism? I believe that everyone deserves a warning; the person may have been new and not known what they were doing. After that, a longer ban ranging within days to months, depending on the the seriousness of the vandalism and/or if it's been repeated. If the vandal troll's for a third time then they are clearly intending to cause trouble and should be given the banhammer.
- What you would like to see happen on this wiki/any plans for helping it grow: I would like to see this wiki become more soureful than Wikisimpsons. I would like to see and help clean this wiki up and fix all of the categories and redirects and put images on all the pages needing them. We also need to create an active community of many people, not just the same people keeping track of vandals and new episodes everyday.
- Any other relevant info, such as qualifications like being an admin on another wiki: This would be my first admin position but I have a decent amount of wiki experience and feel that I can be a helpful admin.

- I have edited on that wiki, but it was before I realized how crazy a few of the people there are (SgtCook was nice though). Solar Dragon even told me he was behind the vandalism here (Possibly the Ralph Wiggum and Lisa Simpson Jr incident, which was complete hell). I have made a few edits there, but I won't be anymore. - How do you handle vandalism? I would where it started and revert from that point.
- What you would like to see happen on this wiki/any plans for helping it grow: I would like to have production (especially for episodes on DVD), reception tabs and if possible analysis tabs on episode articles, more quality classes like the ones listed on this page and a category or list of userboxes unlike this empty category.
- Any other relevant info, such as qualifications like being an admin on another wiki: Four years as a member as well as four barnstars on Wikipedia. I have been a Simpsons fan for twelve years, watching it on BBC2, Channel 4 and Sky1 in the UK as well as online. I am currently an active participant on the Wikpedia's Simpson Wikiproject and Ranked #11 on this wiki.

- Talks to others and answers questions: Yes, though most of my conversations with others on this wiki have been along the lines of an administrator, when it was determined they were not editing in good faith. However, I have made it clear during these times that I was not an admin and therefore could only give recommendations and advice.
- Has not founded, adopted, or been given admin access on another wiki in the last 60 days: correct
- Has not been blocked on another wiki: There is a block on record within the past month elsewhere that was placed in retaliation for me having to enforce policy about adding false information on the main wiki I edit. When I pointed it out to the person (a younger kid) that retaliation is not a good idea and could be considered an abuse of administrator privilege, the block was removed.
- How do you handle vandalism? I try to remain objective and keep any edit summaries, block reasons and block/warning notifications factual and impartial. I fell for a troll's bait about two years ago, and since then have learned that the less fuss you make over a problem, the faster it is resolved and the less enjoyment they get out of it.
- What you would like to see happen on this wiki/any plans for helping it grow: There is a lot of cleanup and organization that needs to be done in the categories and redirects. The layout of the main page and some of the logos haven't been updated for over a year, so it's time to redesign them. There is also some other cleanup that needs to be done, but that can be taken care of after the adoption.
- Any other relevant info, such as qualifications like being an admin on another wiki: I put pending in the first point because I would like to give someone else the chance to take the lead here, for the following reasons: other people have more knowledge about The Simpsons than I do, and I am an administrator on two other wikis (plus two others in a backup/support capacity), so I would like to avoid dividing my time further if I can help it. I would prefer to serve in an advisory role, including being a backup administrator and/or backup bureaucrat.
- If no one else is available to adopt this wiki, I will do it to help protect this wiki, then will look to appoint administrators that are fans of the show and can help build this place.
- I'm not an artist, but I can use a graphics program to make logos, edit pictures, etc.

Finalists - updated[]
As of Wednesday, we have two people that have confirmed that they want to adopt this wiki: TheShadowCrow and Trakira2189. I initially thought that only one person would have to make the adoption request, but I just noticed that co-adoptions are allowed. This simplifies matters, so I moved the two "goals for the wiki" section back up to the candidates section so this new information could be posted.
We just need to get everyone's approval that it's okay that both TheShadowCrow and Trakira2189 would be given Bureaucrat rights, which includes admin rights. Let's run this through Saturday, October 8th so we can get the adoption request in quicker and get started on rebuilding this wiki.
