Green Day is a popular American punk rock quartet. They first became successful with the release of their album "Dookie" in 1994. Their 2004 album, "American Idiot" was also a major success. They along with The Offspring have been credited with bringing back Punk Rock. Some hits Green Day have had include "American Idiot", "Basket Case", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Know Your Enemy", "21 Guns", "Holiday", "Warning", "When I Come Around", “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”, and “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.

History

They were playing at a concert on a barge floating in Lake Springfield. Green Day was playing their own version of The Simpsons theme. When they were done, they were tired of playing so long so they began to talk about the environment. Everybody was upset and started throwing litter at them. Most of the litter missed them and polluted the lake, causing the barge to dissolve and sink. As this happens, the band members pull out violins and start playing "Nearer My God To Thee" as the barge sinks, killing them. At their funerals, in Springfield, the organist plays one of their singles, American Idiot (Funeral Version).

Behind the laughter

Green Day requested to be guest stars on The Simpsons Movie. The band recorded a rock version of The Simpsons Theme, which plays in the beginning of the movie and during the end credits. Their version of the theme song peaked at 101 on the U.S Bilboard Charts.

Notes

  • The song Nearer My God To Thee is believed to be the last song that the band aboard the RMS Titanic played as the ship was sinking. The band members (none of whom survived the sinking) continued to play even as the ship was sinking in order to keep the passengers calm. This is what Green Day did when their barge was sinking.
  • Guitarist Jason White used to be a touring member of Green Day, but ever since 2012, he was a full member.
