Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner?
Treehouse of Horror X

Trivia

  • Homer breaks the fourth wall by telling the audience, 'We'll be right back.' The line was said as "The Simpsons" cut to a commercial break.
  • Even though Üter Zörker was said to have disappeared since the school field trip in The PTA Disbands, he is seen attending the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con in Mayored to the Mob.
  • Homer doesn't like low fat foods.
  • When Homer was born, the Springfield Shopper cost five cents.
  • Even though Homer's tirade towards the ambulance for cutting him off had him being bleeped out, the actual words comprising the bleeps according to the closed captioning were extremely tame curses (eg, screw, damn, stupid, and dingus) that would not have needed to be bleeped out and weren't either in prior episodes, or even in prior or later scenes of that episode.
    • Specifically, according to the closed captioning, Homer's "uncensored" tirade in full was the following: "Hey, you [dingus], you cut me off! Ah, yeah, [screw] you!" … "[Stupid] Ambulance! You think you're so big with your [damn] [<extra beep>] siren and your letters on backwards!"

Cultural References

  • The title references the 1967 film, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
  • Homer's song about food partly resembles the tune from the song "I Feel Pretty", from "West Side Story".
  • The typewriter with a missing key references the film "Misery".
  • Props referencing various films that are seen at Planet Springfield include Herbie from "The Love Bug", the coffee mug from "Heartbeeps", the cane from "Citizen Kane", the awful script from "The Cable Guy" (which Homer rips up in utter outrage as it nearly ruined Jim Carrey's career), an alien resembling one from "Mars Attacks!", a model of the Titanic, models of an X-Wing and TIE fighters, and a statue of C-3PO.
  • Luigi references the "horse head" scene from "The Godfather".
  • Homer typing the same thing over and over spoofs the 1980 film "The Shining".
  • "Citizen Kane" is referenced multiple times throughout the episode, such as the "cane from Citizen Kane" and the scene where Homer tells Lisa, 'people will think what I tell them to think' and that she, 'can't do this to me, I'm Homer Simpson!' as she leaves the room.
  • Homer's dummy sings on it's recording a parody of Donna Summer's "She works hard for the money".

Goofs

  • There was a cane in Citizen Kane. However, it did not play a major role in the narrative, which may be why Lisa doesn't remember it.
  • In the scene where the restaurateurs, critics and animals are behind Homer and Lisa, and are about to give the former his comeuppance, Daphne Beaumont's lipstick disappears from her lips when she clenches her teeth.
  • Marge tells Homer that the E key on the typewriter is broken, yet he is able to type "screw Flanders", "pasghetti", and "momatoes". It's possible that Homer wrote "Screw Flanders" as "Scru Flandrs", "Scroo Flandars", he wrote "Pasghetti" as "Pasghatti" or "Pasghitto", he wrote "Momatoes" as "Momatos", or he put a space in where the Es would be so he could use his hand and a pen to place Es in the spaces.
  • Flanders was briefly seen as having become overweight (no doubt due to Homer's positive reviews for restaurants), yet at the eat-athon, he was shown to be back at his usual weight. Presumably, Flanders spent a lot of time exercising to remove the excess weight beforehand.
