Homer Alone |

Trivia[]
- This is the first episode since Season 2 in which Chief Wiggum has blue hair.
- This is the third time a case of an ironic musical hold has caused a Simpsons character to burst into tears. The first was in Stark Raving Dad when Marge dialed Calmwood Mental Institution and was placed on hold while Crazy by Patsy Cline played. The second time was in Saturdays of Thunder when Homer dialed the National Fatherhood Institute and Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin played. The footage of Homer calling to report Maggie's disappearance was recycled from Saturdays of Thunder.
- Marge's train stops at Shelbyville, Badwater, Cattle Skull, and Testing grounds before stopping at Rancho Relaxo.
- The second Nick's bowling shop that Marge goes to has a picture of Jacques from the episode Life on the Fast Lane.
- This episode has the second time where Marge roars. The first was Some Enchanted Evening when she roars at the kids.
- When Maggie crawls down the street, a car is illegally parked in front of a sign that states "NO PARKING".
- The bus on Springfield bridge is filled with actors in costume and says "Shelbyville Players".
- Homer says "Never leave again" four times.
- When Marge leaves for her vacation there is a man on the train platform checking his watch. He is modeled after Mark Kirkland who directed this episode.
- There were some scenes in the trailers for this episode which didn't get to air. After Homer staples Maggie's diaper shut, he picks her up, and the changing board comes with her.
- The man who rudely turns down the lube job and bluntly tells the Squeaky-Voiced Teen "Do not touch me" was the same man in When Flanders Failed who was rude to Ned Flanders when Ned validated his parking ticket without having to buy anything from The Leftorium.
- When Maggie is chewing on the seat belt, her sleeves disappear.
- Lisa says "Quit it!" repeatedly to Bart again which she did in When Flanders Failed when Bart's reenacting Touch of Death.
References[]
- When Homer calls the Department of Missing Babies to report that Maggie has disappeared, the on-hold music is "Baby Come Back" by Player. The band recorded a slightly different tempo of their one-hit wonder specifically for this episode.
- The opening scene of the episode, where Homer is chasing Bart, and when they show their "scientific names", it is a parody of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote chase scenes from the Looney Tunes cartoons of Warner Bros. directed by Chuck Jones.
- The title of this episode is a parody of the Home Alone movie series. When Homer finds out Maggie is missing, he puts his hands on his cheeks and screams like Kevin McCallister from the movies. This episode was written by David M. Stern, whose brother Daniel starred as Marv the bandit in the first two Home Alone movies.
- Some of the movies playing at Rancho Relaxo are: Thelma and Louise (which Marge watches and features Susan Sarandon), The Happy Little Elves Meet Fuzzy Snuggleduck and The Erotic Awakening of S.
- The very end where the whole Simpson Family is squished in the same bed and the lights are turned off, Maggie is the last to close her eyes. This is a somewhat reference to the very first appearance of The Simpsons on The Tracy Ullman Show in the short "Good Night."
- During Marge's ceremonious release, Mayor Quimby whispers to an aide "They're like seals; toss 'em a fish and watch 'em slap their fins together", a slightly modified quote from the 1957 film "A Face in the Crowd". Curiously, Quimby even breaks from his usual John F. Kennedy-esque monotone to replicate Andy Griffith's snide delivery.
- In the scene where Marge roars in front of the bus driver, you can hear the 1982 roar track of the Metro Goldwyn Mayer logos. It was used in movies until 1994. It was updated in the years 1994, 1995 and 2008 respectively. However, movies still continued to use the 1995 track as the 2008 one was very short lived.
- Homer's sound clip being reused in "Lisa's First Word" where Bart flushes Homer's keys down the toilet.
Goofs[]
- When Marge was blocking the Memorial bridge with her station wagon, the police cars on scene have a white paintjob, but when Maggie was at the top of Phineas Q. Butterfat's 5600 Flavors Ice Cream Parlor, the cars have a black and white paintjob.
- The color of the first car at the traffic jam changes between green, blue and black.
