- FBI Agent Annie Crawford, is a parody of CIA agent Carrie Mathison played by Claire Danes.
- Annie's co-worker "Sid" is a parody of Saul played by Mandy Patinkin (who had previously guest voiced Lisa's future onetime fiancé Hugh in "Lisa's Wedding") and the other FBI agent is a parody of CIA Director David Estes played by David Harewood.
- The opening credits sequence of Homeland are recreated.

This is similar to when Homer puts on Henry Kissinger's glasses after finding them in a toilet and incorrectly states the Pythagorean theorem and somebody in another stall corrects him that it is a right triangle in "$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)".
- The picture of Moe's Grandma with the text "To Moe- What a World!" and the fact that water killed her, is a reference to the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz.
- The suspects on Chief Wiggum's terrorist list are: Black Doctor (Dr. Hibbert), Mexican Bee (Bumblebee Man) and Indian Clerk (Apu Nahasapeemapetilon).
- To date, this is the last episode in which Bart says, "I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?"

- Homer's waist size is revealed be 52. Given that he is average in height, this doesn't correspond with his canonical weight of 239 pounds.
- Bart wrote "Need new dad, No fatties" upside down, as he flips the sign for it to face the right way.
