Hostile Kirk Place is the sixteenth episode of Season 34.
Synopsis[]
By fanning the flames of hate and division instead of embracing historical fact, nobody Kirk Van Houten rises from obscurity to become arbiter of Springfield Elementary's curriculum--leading to a fascist, dystopian future where Kirk is Springfield's dictator.
"When Milhouse's Dad, Kirk, takes exception to a school history lesson that paints one of his ancestors in a bad light, who caused the Great Springfield Gazebo collapse in the past, Kirk goes on a crusade to censor and control the school curriculum -- a crusade that Homer co-opts for fun and profit."
Plot[]
Springfield Elementary School has to close for a few weeks due to an exploding can of Iraq War-era mayonnaise, which caused the entire school to stink of eggs and vinegar. The explosion itself was caused by an overload of the circuit breaker because too many electronics were plugged in. That night, Homer watches late night television when an advert featuring Shaquille O'Neal shows up. He wants to buy that product, but Marge convinces him not to as he has purchased countless useless products from late television shopping adverts in the past, which has caused a pile-up of credit card bills. Homer admits her that he's an idiot and then falls asleep on the couch.
The next morning, Bart and Lisa wake Homer up and tell him that they are home schooling here. The children in Springfield do their lessons for the day until they get to history. There, they learn about the Great Springfield Gazebo. The mayor back then, Eustace, who happened to be an ancestor of the Van Houten family, commissioned the Gazebo building. Due to its poor quality bracing, it collapsed when the people inside sang love songs, and Eustace became an pariah all across Springfield. When Milhouse and Kirk find out about their ancestor, they realize the Van Houten family have always been unlucky. They are disappointed as the incident made their family name look very bad. At Moe's Tavern, both Homer and Kirk complain about their problems. Kirk complains about their ancestry, while Homer complains about the rising credit card bills thanks to his purchases. Moe tells Homer that he must invent something that can sell to get his wasted money back, and tells Kirk to stand up for himself.
When the school reopens, the faculty members hold an assembly which is interrupted by Kirk, who demands them to stop teaching about the Great Springfield Gazebo collapse. The school then holds a meeting to discuss this and hear from both sides. Kirk drums up a lot of support from people who don't want the bad parts of Springfield history to be taught, whilst a counter group forms to try and keep the teaching of history in school. Eventually, the meeting is called to a close with no decision made. After this, Kirk becomes respected by the people who supported his views. TBA
