Hubert Gagnon (born around 1947 - June 7, 2020) was a Quebec actor and voice actor who started his career in the 1960s. For The Simpsons, he has provided the French-Canadian voices for Homer Simpson and his father, Abraham Simpson. His other roles have included dubbing Mel Gibson's roles and Optimus Prime in the 1980's Transformers cartoon series and Vernon Dursley in the French-Canadian dubs of the Harry Potter movies.
Biography[]
In 2017, he announces that he will not dub Homer's voices for the 28th season of the Simpsons in order to take a break for health reasons. It will then be up to Thiéry Dubé to take up this immense challenge: to succeed Gagnon after 28 years of dubbing. The latter mentions that although he will stick as much as possible to Hubert's voice, he does not intend to make an imitation of it.
Death[]
He died of cancer on June 7, 2020 at the age of 72.
