India is a country in South Asia and is the second-most populous country in the world, with a population of 1,324,000,000, and is where Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu was born. The Kwik-E-Mart headquarters is located on the Himalayas and Apu and Homer travel there to get Apu's job back.^[1]

The country's borders with: Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar. The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant was temporarily outsourced to India and Homer becomes a supervisor for the Plant. There, he meets a relative of Apu.^[2]

There are more than 23 recognised regional languages in India, and the country became independent from the United Kingdom as a doninion on 15 August 1947, before declaring itself a republic on 26 January 1950. The largest city in India is Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) with a population of 12,400,000. The current Prime Minister is Narendra Modi, who is head of government and has served since 26 May 2014. The current President, is Ram Nath Kovind, who is head of state, and has served since 25 July 2017.

To rescue a cow Bart raised, Apu shipped the cow by air to India since cows are sacred animals in the country.^[3] Krusty the Clown remarked that India nuked Pakistan.^[4]
