Marge was employed as a journalist by him. He was dissatisfied with her articles on new parenting information and warned her to find a fresh night life story or face replacement by Booberella. After Marge returned with a report on Bart's destruction of an art gallery, he terminated her employment due to the loss of all their art-related advertising because of Bart's actions.

JJ Gruff serves as a parody character of J. Jonah Jameson from Marvel Comics, with J.K. Simmons providing the voice. Simmons is known for portraying Jameson in the Spider-Man films and their sequels.
