Simpsons Wiki

Julie Deborah Kavner (born on September 7, 1950) in Los Angeles, California is an American actress best known for voice role as Marge Simpson, as well as Marge's sisters Patty Bouvier and Selma Bouvier, on the animated television series The Simpsons. She grew up in a Jewish family in California and attended Beverly Hills High, which later she admitted she hated.

Kavner also went to San Diego State University. She later discovered her talent in comedy. She also starred in various shows, playing characters such as Dottie Ingels in This is My Life (1992), Cookie Katz in Bad Medicine (1985), Ronnie in Surrender (1987), and Gail in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986); she also voiced a female pigeon on Dr. Dolittle (1998) and Ma in The Lion King 1 ½ (2004). Kavner claims her distinctive voice is due to a bump on her vocal cords.

In 1971, Kavner got a day job at the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture.

She is currently living with producer and partner David Davis, whom she has lived with since 1976. She leads a virtually reclusive lifestyle off-camera, and in her contract, she states she should not have to be allowed to provide the voice of Marge Simpson on-camera or have herself being filmed in the studio.

Kavner is most famous for playing Brenda Morgenstern on Rhoda (a spinoff of the 1970s series The Mary Tyler Moore Show) from 1974 to 1978 and the voice of Marge Simpson on The Simpsons. She is the voice of mainly the Bouvier side of the family, Marge, Patty, Selma, and Jacqueline Bouvier. Simpsons co-producer James L. Brooks frequently worked with Kavner when he wrote for Rhoda. She would reunite with Brooks when she appeared as regular on The Tracy Ullman Show (1987-1990).
