Cultural References[]
- This episode's title is a reference to and parody of William Shakespeare's play, "King Lear", which was also about an elderly father contending with his outcast child (only it was about a king who favored the two daughters who sucked up to him while the third one who actually was honest with her feelings about him ended up being disowned).
- The classic music that plays when Moe, Marv and Minnie are fighting over their mattress stores is Requiem, Dies irae by Verdi.
- The scene during the closing credits is a parody of behind the scenes footage from an old commercial featuring the Mattress Salesman.
Trivia[]
- When Bart and Lisa ask Moe, "Is that your family's mattress store?" repeatedly, it is a reference to when Bart and Lisa repeatedly asked Homer "Will you take us to Mt. Splashmore?" in "Brush with Greatness". Also, when they repeatedly ask "Are we there yet?".
