The Lethal Opening Sequence couch gag is the third couch gag of Season 10.
Plot[]
In a spooky parody of the Season 6-7 intro, Bart paints "Treehouse of Horror IX" on the chalkboard in fresh blood before leaving the classroom upon the bell ringing. The camera cuts to the driveway, but the family never makes it to the couch: Bart falls off his skateboard and breaks his neck; Lisa's bike trips over a dead Bart, catapulting her headfirst through the roof; and Marge and Maggie gleefully honk their horns as the former pins Homer against the wall with her wagon (something that would comically be done later in the newer, high-definition opening, except Homer flies through the wall and, of course, doesn't die).
Inside, as Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees (who actually talks in this; he's normally mute in the Halloween movies) are on the couch, waiting for the Simpsons to come in. An impatient Krueger asks where they are ("I don't get it, they should be here by now!"), but Voorhees just shrugs and takes things in stride ("Eh, what are ya gonna do?") before turning on the TV.

Trivia[]
- This is one in a handful of couch gags where the family doesn't appear on the couch, joining the one on Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious where the family is locked out of the house and the one on "Homer's Phobia" where an unseen computer user tries to download the family on America Onlink, but the download speed is too slow.
