Lisa Gets the Blues
Forgive and Regret

"Lisa Gets the Blues" is the seventeenth episode of Season 29. This episode has tied The Simpsons with Gunsmoke for “Most Episodes in a TV Show”.

Synopsis

Dewey Largo tells Lisa that she is just a big fish in a small pond, and she is not a good musician. Initially, the Simpson family was supposed to go to Gainesville, Florida, to visit Eunice Bouvier for her birthday, but their flight to Gainesville gets rerouted to New Orleans instead. To cheer her up, the rest of the Simpson family goes with Lisa to Jazz Fest. While there, Lisa is forced to face her failures, and regain her confidence as a jazz musician.

Meanwhile, Bart becomes intrigued by the voodoo in Louisiana, and Homer becomes atractted to the drinks, just as well as the local food.

Reception

Dennis Perkins of The A.V Club gave this episode a C+, stating, "It’s momentarily affecting, especially with Smith giving voice to Lisa’s pain, but 'Lisa Gets The Blues' quickly scatters any intention of recapturing the old Lisa Simpson tragicomic resonance over a succession of self-referential gags, inconsistently sketched character beats, and some of the most indulgent tourist rubbernecking the show has ever done."

"Lisa Gets the Blues" scored a four share and was watched by 2.19 million people, making it Fox's highest rated show of the evening.
