Krusty with a white nose

  • Krusty's nose turns white during his song for the winner of the Little Miss Springfield pageant.
  • During Krusty's song for the winner of the Little Miss Springfield pageant, Lisa is the only other girl on stage. However as she's walking away, all of the other contestants suddenly appear on the stage again.
  • When Lisa is sworn in as Little Miss Springfield, Marge's dress turns from green in the long shot to pink in the close up.
  • Ralph's shirt is brown in this episode instead of blue.
  • When Krusty arrived at the Little Miss Springfield pageant, he was fully dressed, but when he went on stage, his bow tie was undone.
  • In some FXX reruns, in the scene where Skinner throws the briefcase to the guy running away, a lot of blueinngness can be scene.

Trivia/Cultural References[]

  • This episode has been used in England by the Anglican Church to give kids lessons in self-esteem, as well as pointing out Homer's sale of the Duff Beer ticket, marking a sacrifice on his part as Lisa's self-worth was more value to him than his pleasure.
  • Homer's "Blimpy Boy" song is a parody of the song "Georgy Girl" by Australian folk-pop group The Seekers.
  • Lisa ripping off her dress to reveal a leotard underneath refers to a mishap Tina Turner had while performing with Mick Jagger during Live Aid in which she had a wardrobe malfunction which revealed a leotard.
  • Lisa sings "Proud Mary" (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival, probably best known nowadays in the Tina Turner cover version) for the Little Miss Springfield pageant.
  • Krusty mentions "What's-her-name... 'click click'" when he's about to announce the runner-up of the competition. This is in reference to Vanessa Williams, who resigned as Miss America 1984 after she learned that Penthouse magazine would publish unauthorized graphic photos of her. She received a full and public apology during the Miss America 2016 pageant in 2015 in which she served as the head judge.
  • When Lisa is announced as Little Miss Springfield, Marge is standing beside Lisa with a somber look on her face and wearing a pink Chanel dress and a pillbox hat. This was in reference to Jacqueline Kennedy standing beside Lyndon B. Johnson on Air Force One during the emergency inauguration in 1963, immediately following the assassination of President Kennedy.
  • The rioting soldiers at Fort Springfield who are angered at seeing Little Miss Springfield instead of Miss Springfield as they were expecting, storm the stage, causing Lisa and Bob Hope to escape via helicopter. This is akin to the Playboy Playmate scene in Apocalypse Now.
  • The caricatures on the sign of the caricature booth at the carnival are of Farrah Fawcett, Fonzie from Happy Days and Darth Vader from the Star Wars saga.
  • Pahusacheta Nahasapeemapetilon appears as one of the contestants in the pageant. She must be Apu's brother Sanjay's daughter, as Apu himself would not have kids until Season 11's "Eight Misbehavin'".
  • When the Duff Blimp crashes into a tower and catches fire, Kent Brockman screams "Oh, the humanity!!" These were the exact same lines that Herbert Morrison, Host of the WLS Chicago Radio said when the Hindenburg Airship exploded in 1937. The real referenced scene can be seen here at around 47 seconds.
  • When Krusty arrives late at the Little Miss Springfield Contest, he asks Ms. Pennycandy if the event he was attending was the Republican Fundraiser. In "Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington", Krusty would later run as a Republican.
  • Bart imitates the Wolf from Red Hot Riding Hood after asking about the girls in the Little Miss Springfield pageant.
  • During the Laramie ad for Little Miss Springfield, it's painfully obvious that Jack Laramie sneaks secret slogans about his product in the commercial. Cigarette ads were banned from TV on January 2, 1971 in the US.
  • After Amber got struck by lightning, she wasn't seen again for the rest of the episode. There were also zero scenes of her shown in the hospital. Not only that, her name was only mentioned after the lightning struck her.
    • Currently, it is unknown if she'll ever return physically.
  • Due to the citizens circling around Amber after she is struck, we are unable to see her unconscious
  • While we don't see Amber get struck by the lightning unlike the Simpson family who see it on the TV, we are able to see Krusty get struck by it.
