Homer hurts himself, finds out something to his embarrassment or chagrin, is outsmarted, undergoes or anticipates misfortune, or realizes that he did an idiotic act or mistake, he shouts "D'oh!" as an expression of grief or anger. On several occasions, other characters besides Homer had been using this catchphrase, including Bart, Lisa, Marge, Grampa, Mona, and Krusty.

Upon discovering that the extension cord for the Christmas lights is tangled in the utility drawer.
After Bart pulls the fake Santa beard off of Homer's face.
