Mario Milita (June 26, 1923 - August 22, 2017) was an Italian actor and voice actor.
Biography[]
An actor with decades of experience and winner of the 'SPECIALE GRAN PREMIO INTERNAZIONALE DEL DOPPIAGGIO' (Special International Great Award of Voice acting) in 2008.
He was known for his harsh, raspy voice which led him to voice elderly male characters in movies, cartoons and other entertainment.
In the Italian dubbed version of The Simpsons, he was the official[1] voice of Abraham Simpson from Seasons 1-22[2], except for young Abraham (in flashbacks), who was voiced by the former official[3] Italian Homer voice actor, Tonino Accolla[4].
Milita was also known for dubbing Herbert in Family Guy, Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones and Amos Tupper in Murder, She Wrote. He retired from his work in 2012, which was about the time of his 89th birthday and the role of Abraham Simpson was passed on to Mino Caprio, who voiced Moe in the Italian dubbing from Season 1 to Season 8.
From 2004[5], his voice had started to decline strongly, and in his late years of activity the voice had become very feeble and almost irrecognizable as he suffered from hoarseness due to surgery or illness.
In 2011, he had released an interview.[6]
Milita died after suffering a long illness in Rome on August 22nd 2017 at the age of 94.

Notes[]
- ↑ When Grampa Simpson appears, in the credits, under "Doppiaggio (Dubbing)".
- ↑ From 1991 (when the show first aired in Italy) until his retirement in 2012.
- ↑ In ending credits, under "Doppiaggio (Dubbing)".
- ↑ From 1991 (when the series first aired in Italy) until Accolla died in 2013.
- ↑ This is noticed by comparing Milita's voice in the first dubbing of the Simpsons (1991) and 2004 (15th season, with first signs of decay but still normal) to 2012 (22th season, last dubbed by Milita), when his voice had become very weak and had to make a huge pysichal effort to speak.
