Mars is a planet in the Solar System. It is the 4th farthest planet orbiting the Sun, farther from the sun than Earth but closer to the sun than Jupiter.
History[]
When Lisa wins the Springfield Elementary School Spelling Bee, Seymour Skinner awards her with a 'scale model' of Mars, but it is just a kickball with “Mars” written on it. Homer inspects it and says he cannot see any life.[1]
When Lisa found out about Exploration Incorporated, she volunteers to an one-way journey to Mars that would be launched in ten years. On an attempt to make Lisa give up, the entire family decides to volunteer to the mission, but only Lisa and Marge managed to pass. However, the launch that was scheduled to happen ten years later was moved up to Thursday. During the rocket's launch, they discovered that the rocket was not complete, and it was just a stunt to "inspire the next generation".[2]
Non-Canon Appearances[]
Treehouse of Horror[]
In the third segment of "Treehouse of Horror X", Life's A Glitch, Then You Die, after the Y2K problem occurred and Springfield was under siege from the virus, a letter in Krusty's pocket states that a rocket is being populated with humanity's "best and brightest" and will be launched shortly in an effort to preserve human civilization on Mars. When they reach the rocket, Homer unsuccessfully attempts to bluff his way on board (claiming to be the piano genius from the movie Shine), but the armed guard recognizes Lisa as having a seat reserved on the craft, knowing that she's the ship's proofreader. Lisa is only able to take one parent with her, and she quickly chooses Marge before the guard can even finish his sentence, who then takes Maggie along.
Future[]
Homer and Marge visit Mars using Martian Vacations. Martians can be seen and they adopt one.[3]
In 2051, Empty-Nest Marge and President Lisa are living on Mars, as Lisa mentions that she wants to leave Mars and move to Venus. [4]
