- The episode title is a reference to The Smiths 1985 studio album of the same name.
- It may also be a reference to the 1998 book of the same name by Mikita Brottman.
- The episode is a parody of the TV series Succession.
- The Redfield family are parodies of characters from the show. Gus is a parody of Logan Roy, Colby is a parody of Connor Roy, Mav is a parody of Roman Roy, and Sheila is a parody of Siobhan "Shiv" Roy. Jessica is a parody of Gerri Kellman. Cousin Greg from Succession is also in the episode, played by Nicholas Braun, who played him in Succession.
- Dick Gregory, George Carlin, Albert Brooks and Richard Pryor were in the lineup at The Village Turtleneck.
- Krusty the Clown presents a Superman bowling ball, calling it the Super Bowl.
- Worth-a-try Burger is a parody of Whataburger.

- It could also be connected to the 1988 movie Mac and Me, an E.T. rip-off of a similar naming scheme, which was funded by McDonald's and features prominent product placement for that restaurant chain.
- Krusty being declined more money for his act and deciding to open a Krusty Burger across the street, which leads to Gus and Abe to going out of business parallels how Ray Kroc of McDonald's responded to not being able to get the original "Big M" location by opening a franchise near it that forced the McDonald Brothers out of business.
- This is part of the plot of The Founder. Krusty's and Gus interaction at the Worth-a-try Burger is similar to the one involving Ray Kroc and "Mac" McDonald
- Abe crosses the pool to reunite with Gus and Gus setting aside people to reach him in the same Jenny does it to reunite with Forrest Gump at the National Mall after his Vietnam's speech.
