Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson (born January 3, 1956) is an American actor, film director, producer and screenwriter. Gibson moved with his parents to Sydney when he was 12 years old and later studied acting at the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art. His well known films roles include Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon films, William Wallace in Braveheart, Nick Marshall in What Women Want, the eponymous post-apocalypse survivor in the Mad Max films and Benjamin Martin in The Patriot.
He guest starred in The Simpsons episode "Beyond Blunderdome" where he was helped by Homer to edit his remake of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
He also had a small cameo in the final segment of "Treehouse of Horror X".
