New here and not sure where to begin?

When you first come to a wiki, you may not know how to make an edit or where to start. Take a few minutes and read the New to the Wiki? page. That will give you some important tips.

If you make a mistake, don't worry. We can fix pretty much all mistakes, with most of them being fixed by clicking on Undo in the History of a page. As long as you're not deliberately causing problems or spamming, an occasional mistake is no big deal.

If you still need help, leave me a message below and let me know what you need help with. I will see if I can answer your questions. If you left a message for me between September and December 2013, you might want to check archive #4 to see if it was answered before the Message Wall became active.

  • The Simpsons should parody Gremlins in Treehouse of Horror XXXI because I watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOOofypd1MY on youTube. Go watch the vdeo. The link to it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOOofypd1MY. Then comment on the Simpsons Wiki when you finish watching the video.

  • =Both The Scratchy & Itchy Show and Catchy articles have obviously fake info. It also seems to be created by the same troublemaker who keeps trying to say Itchy is a Hero and Scratchy is a villain.=

    • So far, it's just a little bit of fan fiction. A block may not be needed right now. If it keeps up, then I can set a block.

    • Ok, but keep in mind that this vandal is well to the fandom community, he was even in the 101 Dalmatian Street Wiki.

    • I'll head over there now. I just noticed that indicator for the number of messages is varying depending on which wiki I'm on, so maybe I was ignoring some of them.

  • Hi,

I recently made an edit to 734 Evergreen Terrace (the Hibbert house) that involves a change in the address of the building, and thus the name of the artical. But when I tried to rename it it said I didn't have permission and to ask an admin. so, can you help?

    thanks

      Loading editor
    • I'm not really sure why you wouldn't be able to rename the page yourself. It isn't protected against that.

But before we go ahead with renaming it, how did you figure out the address was 738 instead of 734? If it's just because it's next door to the Brown House (740), we might need more info than that. Some cities number houses really close together, others spread them apart so a jump from 734 to 740 wouldn't be out of place.

    • Honestly, It was that, and that the Simpsons are 742, and the Flanders are 744, so I concluded that it would be 738.

I was also not aware that some cities number homes further apart, I thought they all did it increasing by one with even and oddnumbers on opposite sides of the street.

Also, I just found out there is already an artical called 738 Evergreen Terrace. That must have been why I couldn't change the name.

I need you to remove the admin templates without this user reverting the edits. I think you have to protect those userpages so that user won’t keep bringing those templates back.

  • Please see this thread that someone left on my wall. He is not a mod or admin but is carrying himself as one. I never got a copyright complaint from the staff and this dude is just some random person.

I looked at what happened over on the Rocko's Modern Life Wiki and from what I can tell, the complaint was the screenshots had graphics overlaid on them from the site where the episodes were viewed or from the smartphone interface, rather than being a pristine screenshot like what you can get from a DVD or iTunes and using a graphics program to crop any borders or the like. And about putting the pictures in a Gallery instead of displaying them individually.

Unless it's been deleted, there doesn't seem to have been any discussion about selecting the licensing or copyright status. I don't have the app for my phone, so I don't know if you get an option when uploading pictures to select the licensing. Otherwise, you use a computer, or on the phone you go way down to the bottom of the page, click on "View full site" and then you get to the standard upload screen, like this:

      RML Wiki upload screen

What I noticed is the drop-down menu for selecting the Licensing is almost completely hidden. The only thing that indicates it's something that can be adjusted is the triangle a couple of inches to the right. It's really easy to miss and if people aren't selecting any licensing when uploading picture, it wouldn't be their fault. Maybe if the transparency for the center section was turned down in the Theme Designer it might show up better or else someone will need to dig into how the wiki's appearance was set to find how to make it more noticeable.

As said above, any discussion about copyright and licensing either hasn't taken place, it was deleted or it's in a spot that isn't readily apparent. Because of that, the block looks a bit arbitrary.

On this wiki, the licensing drop-down menu should be easily visible so there shouldn't be any problem in selecting one of the choices. (With the same caveat as before that I don't know what the interface is like on the Fandom app.) If it came right down to it, I could probably use our bot account and have it run through adding a default licensing to show it's an episode screenshot. Might get some of them tagged wrong, but it would resolve the problem of pictures without any licensing.

I'm also on the Rocko's Modern Life wiki and I noticed how a lot of their episode images are low quality at the moment.

Thanks for helping Heyfunboy about the licensing.

  • Hello,

The user SesameStreetTypewriterGuyFan97 has been copying content from Wikisimpsons, and also vice versa from Fandom. I have asked him multiple times to stop, and he has been asked on Wikisimpsons to stop as well, but he carries on. Could you talk to him about this and make sure he stops please?

    Thank you.
