Mt. Useful is a mountain that is outside of Springfield.
History
In the episode, Mr. Burns orders the faculty and staff of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant to partake in a team race at the mountain in an attempt to promote teamwork with a forced requirement: the last team to reach the cabin would be fired.
The mountain has only two cabins: one serves as a ranger's station, and the other is one rented for celebrations. However, that cabin is located in a noise-susceptible avalanche zone. It also has a Visitor's Center, which allows park-goers the chance to see examples of the mountain's ecology.
Outside of a music festival held every March, the mountain lacks activities and programs to entice more people to see the area, due to budget cuts. The budget cuts can also help explain the park's outdated and potentially dangerous chairlifts.
