Murder, She Boat
Do the Wrong Thing

Murder, She Boat is the ninth episode of Season 35.

Synopsis[]

Lisa must solve a closed-boat mystery when Comic Book Guy's million-dollar action figure is "murdered" on a pop culture cruise.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Marge receiving a large check in the mail in the morning. At Lisa's suggestion, the family uses the money to go on a pop culture cruise where they run into Comic Book Guy and his wife Kumiko. Bart reveals he hates Comic Book Guy since he shredded the comic Bart made and wanted to sell at his store. When Comic Book Guy is unveiling his million-dollar Radioactive Man action figure that night, Bart confronts him for destroying his comic and asks him how he feel if someone destroyed his valued property. Suddenly, the lights go out and when they come back the action figure is decapitated. Bart is accused of "killing" the action figure since his face has a scratch mark similar to the blades on the action figure.

While thrown in cruise jail, Bart convinces Lisa he's innocent by listing all the previous things he had done in the past. Determined to clear Bart's name, Lisa, with the help of Taika Waititi, interviews all the suspects who had a motive against Comic Book Guy. While trying to figure out who framed the beautiful Bart, Lisa finds the action figure's head under the bed of their suite and once again thinks Bart did it. Rainier Wolfcastle comes in and tells Lisa he saw the person who "murdered" the action figure since he was trying on his night-vision goggles when the lights went out. Unfortunately, he gets knocked out by a Captain America shield before he has the chance to say who did it. Lisa chases after the culprit, but eventually loses track and finds Taika eating in the hallway, which annoys Lisa. Kumiko then arrived and screams that revealed that Comic Book Guy is gone.

Taika gathers everyone on the cruise the next day and claims that Comic Book Guy destroyed his own action figure so he could replace it for free. However, Lisa uncovers the mystery herself: Comic Book Guy's action figure was never decapitated, but Taika, who had the same Radioactive Man action figure as Comic Book Guy, accidentally ripped off its head so he turned off the lights and switched his broken action figure with CBG's to make it look like it was broken and planted the head under the bed of the Simpsons' suite to frame Bart. Taika defends himself by reminding everyone of the scratch mark on Bart's face he supposedly got from the action figure, but Lisa reveals that Homer accidentally cut Bart's face with the fork he was eating shrimps with when the lights went out. She then asks Homer to lick the sauce on the shield that knocked out Wolfcastle. Homer does so and finds the sauce came back from New Zealand, Taika's home country where the second Radioactive Man action figure was shipped. Everyone searches through Taika's suite where they find Comic Book Guy's real action figure, finally proving Taika's guilt and exonerating Bart. Taika is then arrested and screaming over his powerful friends from New Zealand.

Lisa has one thing to find Comic Book Guy that he went missing. Everyone continues searching for Comic Book Guy which Kumiko found him in the gym. Comic Book Guy tells them that he placed and set up a surveillance device on Lisa and Taika Waititi for questioning suspects to mock them at the interrogation room which everyone hated him. Back in the cell, after Comic Book Guy is found, Bart is freed from jail and thanks Lisa for unwavering belief in him, despite her actual doubts. That night, Comic Book Guy watches footage of Kumiko in tears during the interrogation from the surveillance device. Outside, he throws Radioactive Man figure into the ocean, so that it won't come between them again.

Extra[]

After Taika Waititi is arrested, Gary Chalmers appears that he was getting an orange soda from the refrigerator. Homer told him that not how the mysteries work and a smart character like Sherlock Holmes or Lisa with a super long explanation which then everyone cheers.

Before the closing credits rolled in, Homer eats his food inside Batmobile and Marge told him to get out of Batmobile and come to bed. He said while eating, "I'll never let go."

Behind the Laughter[]

While the episode received positive reception, Taika Waititi's cameo in the episode was criticized by Screen Rant by calling it "self-indulgent, smug, self-congratulatory, and cringeworthy".[1]
