Cultural references

  • The title of the episode is a reference to the play My Fair Lady.
    • This episode is the second to make a reference to this play; the other is "My Fair Laddy" from season 17.
    • This is the third Simpsons to open as a Hanna-Barbera parody. The opening is parodying "The Jetsons" theme song. Other episodes to have Hanna-Barbera opening parodies are: "Marge vs. the Monorail", Homer leaving work a la Flintstones and "When You Dish Upon a Star," Homer dreams him, Bart and Ned Flanders are Yogi Bear, Boo-Boo Bear and Ranger Smith. Homer even quotes George Jetson's line: "Stop this crazy thing." Instead of "Jane," he says "Marge."
  • Mr. T is shown in the opening sequence.
  • Bender from "Futurama" appears in "The Jetsons" opening parody at the start of this episode.
  • Bart has a hat that is similar to Ash hat from Pokemon.
  • This episode plot is very similar to the Uber App polemic, an app that allows normal drivers to carpool, which was seen as unwanted competition by taxi companies. This caused massive protests and even attacks to people who get any profit using this app, similar to how the taxi drivers wanted to attack Marge because of her carpooling service.
  • You can see Mr. Burns asking Smithers "What profit a man if he gained the world, and lose his soul" which is a reference to the Beatles' song "Within You Without You".

Trivia

  • The Pixelated couch gag was originally a fan-made tribute to The Simpsons before Fox contacted the creator of it to use it in this episode. Originally, the couch gag was a Jetsons parody.
  • Bart doesn't have any lines in this episode. Also, Lisa's only lines are "Oh, mom! Someone wants you to give them a ride!"
    • Because of this episode, this leaves Homer the only Simpson family member to speak in all of the episodes so far.
  • This is the second time Homer watches Moe's bar. The first time was in the Season 13 episode: "Homer the Moe".
  • Continuity: Moe mentions Elon Musk and that The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant lost money because of him from the episode: "The Musk Who Fell to Earth". In the next episode: "The Princess Guide",  Mr. Burns  also mentions him.
  • In the couch gag, when Bart makes the skate stunt, The Be Sharps can be seen singing on top of Moe's
  • Despite appearing only in the couch gag as a cameo this episode marks the first appearance of Troy McClure in 17 years.
  • This is the first opening sequence to have Marge express concern about Maggie's disappearance from the cart only to let out a sigh of relief upon discovering she's only in the bag since the opening sequence was revamped in Season 20.
