My Mother the Carjacker |
|
Premiere[]
- The premiere of this episode was watched by 12.5 million people in America.
Cultural References[]
- The title of the episode is a parody of the TV series My Mother the Car. Two episodes of the show were written by James L. Brooks (though he regretted working on the show, as My Mother the Car is considered one of the worst sitcoms in American TV history).
- The last time a Simpson idiotically praises Die Hard occurred in "Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment".
- The show "Oops Patrol" where Marge wins a shirt is based on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno segment “Headlines”, where people send in newspaper headlines that are weird, risque, or have hilarious typos and misinformation.
- The scene, where Homer puts newspaper on the walls, is a parody on the scene from the movie Beautiful Mind.
- Music played during show from sixties is an assembly of the song “All Along the Watchower” by Jimi Hendrix.
- In this episode, the voice of John Lennon can be heard singing "Mother". The Simpsons is now the only show in the history of animation where all four members of Beatles appeared (although John Lennon was murdered in 1980).
- The song played in the montage of Homer and Mona is "Mother and Child Reunion" by Paul Simon.
- Paul Simon was seen in "A Star is Torn" in a newspaper article. He arrested for impersonating a 10 year old boy at Li’l Starmaker.
- Also this song would later appear in "Mona Leaves-a" after Homer reveals her ashes.
Trivia[]
- This is the second appearance of Mona Simpson before her death in Mona Leaves-a.
- During this episode Chief Wiggum arrests Mona, despite being the one in her previous appearance to help her escape. However, he might have forgotten about that escape.
- Homer kicks over the grave of Frank Grimes.
- In this episode, Mona fakes her death. Homer faking his death is what lead to her first appearance in modern day Springfield. This is also the second episode where a character fakes their death with a vehicle crash. The first was "Bart the Fink".
- Despite the title, Mona doesn't carjack in this episode. However, Homer hijacks a prison bus. Mona also hijacks the bus as she knocks Homer off the bus.
- The prison bus previously appeared in "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" and "Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming".
- During their paternal grandmother's trial at the courthouse, Lisa (after being questioned by Gil Gunderson, who was acting as Mona's lawyer) admits that she feels Bart's actually far more dangerous than Mona is.
- This is also the second time Gil Gunderson appears as a lawyer, first being "Sweets and Sour Marge".
Goofs[]

- Two prisoners in the jail both have the number 5231's in their name blank.
- The first half of the "Giant Taco Built in Mexico" news is a normal text. The second half only has the first letters of each line so Mona's message could be shown. The rest of the letters are random and make no sense.
- Despite mentioning it in newspaper message, Mona was not seen jumping from the prison bus. Of course this was probably intentional so as to not ruin the ending. Or maybe she had jumped out before the camera filmed the bus before falling off the cliff.
